General Updates + What’s Currently On My Writing Playlists

Long time, no blog, I guess? I swear this year has utterly flown by so far! But I thought I would write up a blog post with some updates & things that are happening. I turned twenty-one mid-March (eeeep! Still can’t believe this!) and ate PLENTIFUL amounts of cake (chocolate mud cake to be specific—which is amazing…but let’s be honest, all cake rocks.) I’ve been writing, writing, writing, as well helping to plan an overseas trip, and experimenting with a new wide-angle lens for my camera, which I hope to eventually use for astrophotography & landscape photography. Also: I hope you all had a lovely, lovely Easter break & celebrations!! And happy Greek Easter today for those who celebrate!

One of the loveliest roses I’ve seen! ❤ ❤ Such gorgeous pale pinks and creams.

General life/writing updates …

So, I’m going to Greece this month. (!!!!!!!) I’m so, so, so incredibly excited to finally be going! There’s so much culture, history, and scenery there that I’ve wanted to see for a long time. Being Greek, and having so many of my WIPs inspired by/based on Greek mythology and culture, actually going there will be inspiring. In saying that, I’m pretty much forcing myself to take a writing break (to all the writers out there—breaks are so important) while I’m there. The most I’ll be doing is jotting down concepts/notes. If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, then you’ll also that I’m working super-hard on THE EMPIRE OF STARS to have it done before I leave…and fingers crossed I can do it (hence why I gave myself a self-deadline for this revision of TEOS.) I’ve also been trying to learn some of the Greek language before I leave, and oh my goddd, I have a newfound respect for people who know multiple languages—it’s SO difficult, even though the Greek language is incredible beautiful to look at/listen to. So far, my attempts to write out the alphabet is…embarrassing, to say the least.

If you’re interested in following along with my Greek adventures, follow my Instagram—@karahelenterzis—where I’ll be posting a TON of pictures.

Reading updates…

Because I’ve been working so hard on my current WIP, I haven’t been reading a whole lot—but I fully intend to capitalize on my time in Greece & get some serious reading in. Right now, I have the following books to bring with me (…I don’t think I’ll bring them all as I won’t have enough room, but these are all the books I’d ideally bring): Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Cary; The First Fossil Hunters by Adrienne Mayor (non-fic!); A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas; Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop; and The Diamond Throne by David Eddings. Any that you guys have read? Let me know in the comments below! But, needless to say, I’m super excited to dive into all of these. They’re all books that I’ve had on my shelves for what feels like forever, and getting the chance to read them—in Greece, nonetheless!—will be awesome! Right now, I’m reading DSC_1846.jpgEverless by Sara Holland, and I’m enjoying it a lot, so fingers crossed I’ll have it finished before we leave.

Music/writing playlist updates…

So: music! As you know, when I write I have quite detailed playlists. It helps me structure, write, and imagine my books…and honestly? It brings them to life for me. I’d be totally lost without my writing playlists/music. Without further ado, here’s some of the recently-discovered music I’ve been addicted to lately.

Planet Earth II // Jasha Klebe, Jacob Shea, Hans Zimmer

This score…oh my gosh, it’s just breathtaking. There’s no other way to describe it. The opening main title literally makes me tear up; the music is that beautiful. So full of hope, and wonder, and awe…it’s just so GOOD. PSA, if you haven’t seen this documentary (both the first & this one) you must do so. I love documentaries, but even if you don’t, I can guarantee you’ll love it. The cinematography is just stunning, and that’s not even taking into account some of the unique, awe-inspiring moments they caught on camera. Other titles I love from the score are “The Ibex”, “Savage Beauty”, and “Home to Dragons” (which is a little reminiscent of Dany’s score theme from GoT! Fitting, considering the title & scene it was used in.)

Themes for Orchestra and Choir 5 // Immediate Music

IMG_7559.jpgI love Immediate Music—and this album is no exception. The stand-outs are “Where Giants Dream”, “Legends of the Ringbearer” (totally getting some LoTR vibes with that title?!), “Odyssey”, “Flight of the Griffin”, and “Gates of Eyre”.  I haven’t listened to any of Immediate Music’s other orchestra & choir albums…but if they’re as good as this one, then I’ll totally love them.

Aaaand that’s about it. Basically, since I’ve last blogged: cake, birthday, packing, planning, & writing! Because I’ll be gone some of April & early May, I won’t be blogging much, as I don’t think I’ll have much time, but be sure follow along on my Twitter/Instagram if you want updates!
